Are you a fan of cocktails full of flavour? Try this Tangy Hot & Sour Whisky Lime cocktail recipe this holiday. A perfect balance of sweet, sour and heat, the magical combination is somehow equally hot and spicy, yet cool and refreshing. 

Did you know this drink started as a classic Whisky Sour? Its original warmth came purely from the bourbon or rye whiskey in it. Our variation starts in the same way – with a smoky whisky as your liquor base, diluted in a homemade simple syrup and ice, and soured with a tot of lime juice. The difference is in what brings the heat. We recommend sambal oelek – an Indonesian chilli sauce.

INGREDIENTS:

30ml sugar
30ml boiling water
2 tots whisky
1 tot lime juice
¼ tsp. sambal oelek
3 sprigs coriander
Ice


METHOD:

  1. Stir sugar and water together until sugar has dissolved. Cool until needed.
  2. Place one tot of sugar syrup in a cocktail shaker together with the whisky, lime juice, sambal oelek and ice. Shake well.
  3. Strain into tumblers filled with ice. Garnish with coriander and serve.
